What was it like to play Arcade games in the 1980s?

The golden age of arcade games took place in the late 1970s and early 1980s with huge games being released such as Space Invaders, Asteroids, Centipede, Defender, Donkey Kong, and Pac-Man.

Most of us of heard of these amazing classics. Back in those days, the atmosphere of the arcade depended on where you lived and on the arcade itself. Some were glowing, some were dark, some were bright and happy.

Back then, the stereotypical bully was a thing, waiting in the corners of the arcade to jump out and pummel you for quarters. It was also the place where you would find your first crush, that cute girl or boy you seen at school but too scared to talk to. It was just such a busy and happening place to place awesome games and socialize with people.

The arcade was a fantastic ice breaker, a common place to take someone on a date. You can learn a lot about people by how they play video games. It didn’t matter if they were good, but how they reacted, if they got angry or stayed relaxed and had fun. You could see their personality come through. There are many stories of people meeting their spouse here.
